Climatic evolution of the central equatorial Pacific since the Last Glacial Maximum ArchiMer
Seo, Inah; Lee, Yuri; Lee, Yong Il; Yoo, Chan Min; Hyeong, Kiseong.
This paper investigates paleoceanographic changes at a central equatorial Pacific site (6 degrees 40N, 177 degrees 28W) since the last glacial maximum using planktic foraminifera assemblages, together with the oxygen isotope (O-18) and Mg/Ca compositions of three species (Globigerinoides sacculifer, Pulleniatina obliquiloculata, and Globorotalia tumida) that dwell in the mixed layer, upper thermocline, and lower thermocline, respectively. While the Mg/Ca-derived temperatures of the mixed layer and lower thermocline varied within a narrow range from 18 ka onward, the upper thermocline temperature increased by as much as 3 degrees C during the last deglaciation (18-12 ka) with a simultaneous decrease of O-18. These changes are best explained by an enhanced...

Marine biodiversity in French Guiana: Estuarine, coastal, and shelf ecosystems under de influence of Amazonian waters Gayana
Artigas,Luis Felipe; Vendeville,Philippe; Leopold,Marc; Guiral,Daniel; Ternon,Jean-François.
Marine biodiversity in French Guiana is strongly influenced by the amagon River waters of the river Amazon, which constitute a major structuring factor for the estuarine, coastal, and shelf marine ecosystems. Moreover, the marked seasonal and interannual variabilities play important roles in the stability or fluctuations in the environmental parameters that influence biodiversity at the ecological, population, and genetic levels. Previous and ongoing studies of the marine and littoral biota relate mostly to commercial marine species, protected species in danger of extinction and, specially, to the biodiversity and functioning of local coastal and littoral ecosystems such as estuaries, mudflats, sandy beaches and, particularly, littoral mangroves. A more...

Precipitation variability within the West Pacific Warm Pool over the past 120ka: Evidence from the Davao Gulf, southern Philippines ArchiMer
Fraser, Nicholas; Kuhnt, Wolfgang; Holbourn, Ann; Bolliet, Timothe; Andersen, Nils; Blanz, Thomas; Beaufort, Luc.
Proxy records of hydrologic variability in the West Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) have revealed wide-scale changes in past convective activity in response to orbital and suborbital climate forcings. However, attributing proxy responses to regional changes in WPWP hydrology versus local variations in precipitation requires independent records linking the terrestrial and marine realms. We present high-resolution stable isotope, U-37(K) sea surface temperature, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) core scanning, and coccolithophore-derived paleoproductivity records covering the past 120ka from International Marine Global Change (IMAGES) Program Core MD06-3075 (6 degrees 29N, 125 degrees 50E, water depth 1878m), situated in the Davao Gulf on the southern side of Mindanao....
